In this episode, we have the honor of speaking with Chantell Jewell, a trailblazer who is making waves in the heart of Milwaukee. As the first Black woman to lead the Community Reintegration Center (formerly the House of Correction), Chantell has been instrumental in reshaping the narrative around community reintegration.

Hired in the midst of a global pandemic, Chantell has not wasted any time implementing positive changes in her community. Within a short span of time, she has secured a grant to open a family engagement center, providing resources to teach financial wellness and education, and she has effectively rebranded the correctional facility to better align with its mission.

A Milwaukee native, Chantell brings a wealth of experience to her role at the helm of the CRC, with nearly 30 years of service in various positions within the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. As a former youth counselor, parole agent, and field supervisor, her diverse career path shines a light on her commitment to her community.

In this conversation, we delve into the work Chantell has done to improve organizational culture, educate staff on implicit bias, and review hiring practices to increase diversity. Above all, we discuss her unwavering dedication to public safety and her mission to ensure that everyone who comes to the CRC leaves in a better place than they arrived.

Tune in for this enlightening conversation and discover the transformative work being done at the Community Reintegration Center under the leadership of Chantell Jewell.
